The Club annually awards Best of Species plaques to the members catching the largest fish (by weight) for each of nine listed species. Tournament winning fish are automatically entered. Members may also submit a Virginia citation fish (weight only) or enter a qualifying fish (minimum weights apply for each species) caught from the third Saturday in April (start of Maryland trophy rockfish season) through the end of the calendar year. Best of Species contest rules are set forth below.

Contest Rules
1 All winners will be determined on the basis of the fish’s weight.
2 Fish must be weighed on an authorized Virginia Saltwater Trophy fish Citation Scale. All NNAC weigh in locations meet this requirement.
3 Fish must be caught by hook and line within the NNAC’s designated tournament fishing areas – (a) Tangier Sound, (b) Chesapeake Bay from Hooper Island Light to New Point Comfort/Cape Charles, (c) Potomac River from the Governor Harry Nice Memorial Bridge (Rt. 301) to Point Lookout, (d) Rappahannock River from Rt. 360 Bridge in Tappahannock to Windmill Point, (e) Piankatank River and (f) all tidal bays, creeks, rivers between these points unless otherwise specified.
4 Fish must be caught during the legal fishing seasons in the three jurisdictions within the NNAC fishing area – Virginia, Maryland and the Potomac River. The legal fishing seasons start with the Maryland trophy rockfish season opening the third Saturday in April annually and continue throughout the year, with the seasons closing on or before December 31.
5 The angler must be a NNAC member (adult or youth) in good standing.
6 Tournament winning fish for each species will automatically be entered in the Best of Species contest.
7 Weigh in of the fish when not weighed during a club member fishing tournament must be recorded on a NNAC Tournament Fish Entry Form. Best of Species is to be recorded as the tournament name.
8 The following minimum weight requirements must be met for entry of a fish in the Best of Species contest when not weighed during a club member fishing tournament:

9 The member must notify the club of the entry (weigh-in) of a fish in the Best of Species contest within two weeks of the date the fish was caught, with the exception of fish weighed in during the club’s regularly scheduled member fishing tournaments. Notification can be made by e-mail to fishNNAC@gmail.com or by mail to Northern Neck Anglers Club, P.O. Box 294, White Stone VA 22578. Notification is to include member’s name, date, species, weight and weigh-in location.
10 Fish can also be entered by submitting the fish for a Virginia Trophy Fish Citation at any authorized Virginia Trophy Fish Citation weigh in location at any time during the NNAC tournament season.
- Fish must meet the minimum Virginia citation weight requirement.

- Only VA weight citation entries will be considered (no length citations).
- Fish may be delivered to the weigh in location by land or water.
- A copy of the trophy fish citation application form must be submitted to the club by e-mail to fishNNAC@gmail.com or by mail to Northern Neck Anglers Club, P.O. Box 294 White Stone, VA 22578 within two weeks of the date the fish was caught.
11 In case of ties the earliest fish entry received by the Club wins.
12 NNAC Tournament rules, Virginia Trophy Fish Citation Tournament rules and all State and Federal laws and regulations for the waters where caught will apply.
13 The awards will be commemorative plaques from the Club for the largest (by weight) fish entered for each species.
14 The decision of the Board of Directors will be final in the event of any dispute.
