NNAC 2025 Angler of the Year

Dave Miller is a semi-retired television producer and has done many films on the
Chesapeake Bay. They are free to watch on youtube.com/seachaser210. Dave began his fishing journey out on his grandfather’s boat catching catfish at
the age of 3. He started fishing seriously at the age of 10 taking trips to northern
Ontario with his father during the summer months, catching pike, walleye, bass,
and muskies.
After moving to Virginia he fished the James and Chickahominy rivers heavily for
bass, brim, perch, catfish, gar, and other freshwater fish. Then he discovered the
Chesapeake bay at a friend’s cabin in Fleeton near Reedville. At that time you
could fill your cooler with croaker, spot, trout, flounder and bluefish in a couple of
hours, catching two at a time just about anywhere you dropped your line.
Dave also fished some distant places when he had the chance. The Gulf of
California for Pacific Sailfish. Costa Rica for Pacific Albacore, Red Snapper, and
Zebra fish. Alaska for King Salmon. Mexico for El Dorado and Blue Marlin. South
Carolina for sharks.
However, when the Rockfish boom of the early 2000’s hit, that is when Dave
invested in a saltwater boat and gear and built a boat garage at his cottage on the
bay. That’s when you could head out to the Northern Neck Reef and catch your
limit of 28 inch plus Rockfish by chumming. Dave fished rockfish and one time
caught a 51 and a 38 pounder at the same time trolling on a tandem umbrella rig
while filming with Ryan Rogers. He started serious Cobia fishing around 2017
with tips from a local sportsman, Ron Edwards. Shortly after that he joined the
NNAC. He worked the net as his son, his best fishing partner, Daniel caught a 67
lb. Cobia in Spring of 2023 off Dameron Marsh. He enjoys inshore fishing on the
rivers when the offshore fishing slows down.
